[Ed. This column aims to highlight Amiga dealers throughout the world, giving them a chance to tell their story, describe their services and talk about the future. In this issue Randhir Jesrani of Compuquick tells us about life in the US Midwest.]

Hello Fellow Amigans,

Greetings from Compuquick this month of April 2003.

This article is our contribution to issue #3 of Club Amiga Monthly and talks about us, the Amiga community and Amiga, the computer we love.

Compuquick was established in 1986. We started off selling Commodore Computers, yes C64 et al. and Software. Remember SAM (Speech Auto Mouth)?

Soon we expanded into selling Amiga, the Computer for the Creative Mind (a challenge taken up by NewTek and others to great effect), and what joy there was to see Defender of the Crown on an Amiga 1000 and a 1080 monitor!

Since then we have sold almost every single Amiga product manufactured, be it software or hardware.

We operate out of Columbus, Ohio and at one point served over 400 local Amiga Users.

Having persisted for so long by supporting our local Amiga Community and the User Group, Compuquick attracted customers from ALL parts of Ohio and nearby states like Kentucky and West Virginia even though we were strictly a retail business in the early years.

Subsequently, we expanded into a mail order operation and now serve the entire U.S. We have participated in all major U.S. Amiga Shows held over the last 6 years.

The Internet has now brought the entire Amiga World within our reach and we are proud to be able to serve customers in the next town or the next continent. In part this has made up for the fact that the Amiga market has shrunk more than 80% over the last 2 years.

Compuquick continues to serve loyal Amiga users around the world by stocking all available software and hardware. Unfortunately, there have been few new products released during the past two years, and especially no new 'stunning' Amiga hardware to drive the platform forwards. Even so, we continue to make our best efforts to support the Amiga user base, including repairs of tired old Amigas.

What do we see for Amiga's future?

The AmigaOne and O.S.4.0 hold hope for the future for the many who have waited for over 2 years for a new Amiga. Of course this on its own will not be enough.

It will also be necessary to have new applications that compliment the AmigaOne and O.S.4.0. This is very important and we feel that without new software the AmigaOne and OS4.0 will not make much impact nor will it hold the interest of the Amiga user base for very long.

Simply put it is not much fun playing with Amiga 1200 software on an AmigaOne! The efforts of Eyetech and Hyperion in this regard are to be very much appreciated.

Strong and focused direction from Amiga Inc. is necessary and it will go a long way to sustaining the Amiga Spirit in the coming years. We wish them all success.

LONG LIVE AMIGA!
